The Idea
The Drywall Axe was created by Adam Pauze of Pauze Innovations. While working on a home renovation project with his brother-in-law in 2009, he injured his arm cutting a piece of drywall. He knew there had to be a safer and easier way to cut drywall. After a visit to the ER, he woke up at 3am in the morning with the concept. He used his 10 years of experience in the construction industry to build on his idea and create what is now The Drywall Axe. He partnered with Spark Innovations, an Industrial Design company in King City, Ontario, to perfect the design, secure patents, and complete testing on drywall and several other materials.
The first trade show attended was INPEX in Pittsburgh where Pauze won a gold medal of merit for The Drywall Axe display. At the second trade show, the Electronic Retail Association trade show in Las Vegas, Pauze won inventor of the year in the new product search category for the Drywall Axe.
The Dragon’s Den
The Drywall Axe was pitched on the popular Canadian television show The Dragon’s Den. Adam and Pauze Innovations co-founder, MLB All-Star and World Series Winner Cliff Floyd presented the Drywall Axe and received offers from all 4 of the panelists.
Distribution
The Drywall Axe was exclusively available for a period of time in Canadian Tire stores across Canada, under the Maximum brand. But we recognized the demand didn’t stop there… DIYers and general contractors across the USA and internationally were also asking for one-of-a-kind tool. Before making it available internationally, we took the time to redesign the tool, taking consumer feedback into consideration. The Drywall Axe returned with a bang in 2017. It’s smaller, much lighter and easier to handle, includes an enhanced locking mechanism and 4 replacement blades in the handle.
